Learn to Sail

Learn to sail in a relaxed, safe and fun environment!

Lake Mulwala is the perfect place to start sailing; the water is warm, the sun is usually shining, sailing takes place right in front of the clubhouse and we have some fantastic boats to learn on.

We provide sailing lessons for juniors (aged 8 to 14) as well as adults. Lessons run for 90 minutes on Saturday mornings in the summer; a course comprises six lessons.

Provision of Boats

We provide Optimist dinghies for beginner levels, 1 to 3. These boats can be sailed with two kids to begin with but provide best learning when sailed one-up. For level Four and above, it is expected that kids will have their own boat so that the club boats can be allocated to the next cohort of beginners. The club will be happy to provide advice on how to source suitable boats for juniors.

The club will provide training dinghies for introduction to two person boats.  Moving to two-person sailing is a sociable activity and helps the kids learn about multiple sails, crewing and cooperation.

Adult Learn to Sail

The Adult Learn to Sail Program is suitable for ages over 15. We provide training on the club Hobie Wave catamarans or Pacer. There are also opportunities to crew on the larger trailable yachts. These boats are ideal for older trainees.

Our aim is to encourage parents to participate in the Adult Learn to Sail so that they become familiar enough with sailing that they can be “crew” for their kids on two-person boats in due course!
